Revivogen

Revivogen® is an all-natural, botanically-derived hair care system of topically applied products formulated to help slow the effects of hair loss and promote hair growth. Revivogen® products do not require FDA approval since they don't contain drugs such as minoxidil or finasteride. Revivogen® claims it's the only product that contains in one formula the nutrients, saw palmetto, gamma linolenic acid (GLA), alpha linolenic acid (ALA), zinc, beta-site sterol, and procyanidin oligomers.

Male or female pattern baldness, known as androgenetic alopecia (AGA), is a common form of hair loss in men and women. Male pattern baldness is caused by an overproduction of the androgenic hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a potent form of testosterone known to stimulate prostate growth and scalp hair loss. An enzyme produced in the prostate, adrenal glands and scalp, called 5-alpha-reductase, metabolizes the male hormone testosterone into DHT.

Revivogen® products contain botanically-based nutrients that block the damaging effects of 5-alpha-reductase and stop the production of DHT. "By combining GLA, ALA, Linoleic Acid, azelaic acid, vitamin B6, zinc sulfate and saw palmetto extract, we have created a natural yet extremely powerful DHT formula," states the manufacturer, on its website. "These ingredients work through different mechanisms and synergistically inhibit both type 1 and 2 forms of 5-alpha-reductase and decrease DHT locally."

Product research suggests that GLA and ALA inhibits the type 1 and 2 forms of 5-alpha-reductase and have potent anti-inflammatory effects. Other studies indicate that a combination of azelaic acid, vitamin B6, and zinc results in a 90 percent inhibition of 5-alpha-reductase activity. Several studies have shown that saw palmetto effectively blocks the type 1 and 2 forms of 5-alpha-reductase and may be more potent than finasteride. Furthermore, studies indicate that procyanidin oligomers (also called proanthocyanidin) stimulate hair follicle growth similar to the drug minoxidil.

The manufacturer claims that Revivogen® will work for women as well as men. Revivogen® products need to be used for at least 3 to 4 months to experience results. To maintain the desired results, the product must be continued. The manufacturer states that its products are free of most side effects, other than transient, mild irritation in less than 2 percent of users.

Products such as Advecia or Procerin can be used in conjunction with Revivogen.
