Procerin

Procerin® is an all-natural, botanically-derived hair care system of both oral and topically applied products formulated to help slow the effects of hair loss and promote hair growth. Procerin® products do not require FDA approval since they don't contain drugs such as minoxidil or finasteride. Procerin® products contain 17 natural ingredients, including saw palmetto, gotu kola, nettles, magnesium, zinc sulfate, eleuthero root and muira puma root.

Male or female pattern baldness, known as Androgenetic alopecia (AGA), is a common form of hair loss in men and women. Male pattern baldness is caused by an overproduction of the androgenic hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a potent form of testosterone known to stimulate prostate growth and scalp hair loss. An enzyme produced in the prostate, adrenal glands and scalp, called 5-alpha-reductase, metabolizes the male hormone testosterone into DHT.

Procerin® products contain botanically-based nutrients such as saw palmetto, that block the damaging effects of 5-alpha-reductase and stop the production of DHT. However, women are not likely to experience improvement with Procerin® unless their hair loss is caused by DHT.

In a placebo-controlled, double-blind study, male subjects with mild to moderate AGA were administered saw palmetto extract and beta-sitosterol (a phytosterol found in many plants and grains). Findings revealed that 60 percent of the participants experienced improvement in hair loss.

"Preliminary studies indicate that Procerin is effective for the majority, but not all, of men suffering androgenic alopecia, the most common cause of hair loss," the manufacturer states, on its website. "Procerin will not help individuals when hair loss is a result of chemotherapy, scalp trauma, androgenic areata, or other non-DHT related causes."

Procerin® products need to be used for at least 1 to 2 months to experience results. The manufacturer claims that its products are free of most side effects. However, mild stomach discomfort is possible in the first days of supplement use. If Procerin® is taken with food, the problem should subside. Furthermore, if skin irritation occurs with topical serum use, it should only be applied once a day.
