Nioxin

NIOXIN Bionutrient Formulations® is a system of topically applied hair cleansers and treatments that contain natural botanicals to improve the scalp environment and enhance the appearance of thinning hair. NIOXIN products do not require FDA approval since they're all natural and don't contain drugs such as minoxidil or finasteride. NIOXIN hair products are used to treat the appearance of fine or thinning hair in men, women and children.

Male or female pattern baldness, known as Androgenetic alopecia (AGA), is a common form of hair loss in men and women. Male pattern baldness is caused by an overproduction of the androgenic hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a potent form of testosterone known to stimulate prostate growth and scalp hair loss. An enzyme produced in the prostate, adrenal glands and scalp, called 5-alpha-reductase, metabolizes the male hormone testosterone into DHT.

NIOXIN Bionutrient Formulations® help to remove excess sebum containing elevated levels of DHT from the scalp. NIOXIN products contain vitamins, proteins and amino acids derived from herbs and botanicals that help make hair fuller and healthier looking.

NIOXIN has not conducted clinical studies of their products on the scalp and thinning hair. "NIOXIN uses natural ingredients in our products, therefore, we do not make any drug claims," states the company, on its website. "Our products are primarily topical, cosmetic-based and do not require clinical studies to be conducted."

An improved scalp environment and appearance of fine or thinning hair will continue only as long as NIOXIN is used. NIOXIN Research Laboratories, Inc. claims that its products have been safely used by men, women and children for over 15 years, with no known side effects.

An effective hair loss treatment would be to use NIOXIN in conjunction with Advecia or Procerin, all-natural hair loss supplements. Since Advecia and Procerin target DHT and 5-alpha-reductase, when combined with NIOXIN they may help increase the rate of hair growth.
